Create a Printable Word Search Puzzle

This browser-based word search generator turns your own vocabulary list into a clean letter grid. Words can run horizontally, vertically, diagonally, forwards, or backwards, while unused squares are filled with random letters. It works well for classrooms, home learning, parties, language practice, revision sheets, and themed activities because you decide exactly which answers should appear.

How to Generate a Word Search

1. Type one word or short phrase in the answer field. Spaces and punctuation are removed automatically so the answer fits naturally into the grid.
2. Select Add word or press Enter. Repeat this for every answer you want to include.
3. Select any word chip to remove it, or use Clear all to begin with an empty list.
4. Adjust the grid-size slider. The minimum size automatically follows the longest answer in your list.
5. Leave Show answer list enabled when players should know which words to find, or turn it off for a more difficult challenge.
6. Select Generate puzzle. Use Regenerate whenever you want a different arrangement with the same words.

Downloading or Printing the Finished Activity

Select Download PNG to create a high-resolution image containing the title, complete letter grid, and optional answer list. The image is generated locally in your browser and can be added to a worksheet, presentation, message, or learning platform. Select Print puzzle for a paper or PDF copy. The print layout removes the website navigation and editing controls, leaving the activity on a clean page. Check the preview before saving, especially when using a large grid, and select landscape orientation if it fits the page better.

Useful Puzzle Ideas

Build spelling tests from the current school list, hide character names from a book, review scientific vocabulary, practise geography, reinforce foreign-language words, or create a quick activity for a birthday or holiday. Shorter grids with familiar answers are easier for children. Larger grids, hidden answer lists, reversed words, and longer phrases make a more demanding puzzle for experienced players.

Privacy and Browser Processing

The word list and puzzle are generated locally in the browser by this interface. Nothing needs to be submitted to a database, and refreshing the page starts a fresh activity. Print or save the result before leaving if you want to keep it. Avoid entering confidential information when creating material that will be printed, saved, or distributed to others.
