Microsoft has confirmed that Satya Nadella is the new CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer confirmed the rumors that had come in recent weeks. Nadella, hitherto exercised as Cloud division responsible for the company and Microsoft, will take office in a company that is facing a major restructuring since last summer. Bill Gates will also have new things: it will be a technology advisor.

Nadella, 46, has been active in Microsoft since 1992, where he came from Sun Microsystems. Initially served as vice president of R & D in the Online Services division, before going on to the Microsoft Business Division. Later he came a post he would retain its activity to this day: Division President of Server and Tools Business.

In this role he had the opportunity to integrate services database, the server platforms and developer tools to the ambitious platform of Microsoft Cloud Computing, Azure. Under his leadership the division became key in both business development as one of the pillars of Microsoft’s profitability.

Candidates for the post of CEO of Microsoft came from different areas, although some had in mind Stephen Elop, former CEO of Nokia, as one of the most likely due to the relevance of mobile devices. However, Microsoft has kept in line with post restructuring last year. The company wants to become a business device and services provider, making someone with experience in the cloud has more than enough to lead this transformation arguments.

Both Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates have offered their official comments on this change in the direction of Microsoft, a change that took months chasing after the announcement of Steve Ballmer in August last year.

Microsoft has also announced that Bill Gates, who until now held the position of Chairman of the Governing Board, will assume a new role on the board as founder and technology consultant, and devote more time to the company, supporting Nadella when profiling technological and product direction. Gates’s role on the board I assume John Thompson, who has just directed the process of finding new CEO for the company.
