iPhone SE goes official, comparing with iPhone 5S and 6s

After a long period of rumor Apple has finally announced a 4-inch iPhone as iPhone SE. This phone is a perfect device for those looking for a powerful smaller phone. It carries almost the same specs iPhone 6s does, but lacks 3D Touch.

iPhone SE Tech Specs

The new iPhone SE features a 4-inch display with 1136 x 640 pixels resolution, 16GB/64GB ROM, Apple A9 CPU with M9 Motion Coprocessor, 12-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel front camera, Finger Print Scanner etc.. We don’t have information on RAM yet, but Apple showed the performance figure of iPhone SE to be exactly like iPhone 6s, so it should certainly be 2GB. iPhone SE also supports Live Photos and Apple Pay. It terms of Design it looks like iPhone 5s. iPhone SE will be available in 4 colors; Silver, Gold, Space Gray and Rose Gold.

New iPhone SE beats iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 by all means in terms of battery life, and it even beats iPhone 6s Plus while using LTE or WiFi connectivity.

Preorder will start on March 24, and iPhone SE will go on sale from March 31. As far as pricing is concerned, iPhone SE 16GB variant will be sold for $399, and 64GB Variant will cost $499.

Apple was rumored to cut 50 % price from iPhone 5S after iPhone SE launch. Apple was selling iPhone 5S 16GB for $450, that is $51 more expensive compared to iPhone SE. Rather than decreasing the price, Apple chose to discontinue iPhone 5s. You can no longer buy iPhone 5s from Apple’s Online Store.

iPhone SE vs iPhone 5s

iPhone SE and iPhone 5s looks exactly same in terms of design, and both features 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm dimension. Display size and resolution also remained unchanged. iPhone 5s is available with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage, but 32GB Storage option is not available with iPhone SE. iPhone SE features Apple A9 Chip, and iPhone 5s comes with Apple A7 Chip. iPhone SE supports Apple Pay, but iPhone 5s doesn’t. iPhone SE features 2GB RAM compared to 1GB found in iPhone 5s.

New 4-inch iPhone SE feature a 12-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording and Live Photo Support. iPhone 5s doesn’t support live photo and 4K video recording, it features a 8-megapixel rear camera. Both the models feature 1.2 megapixel camera, but the new model features f/2.4 aperture, and iPhone 5s has a front shooter with f/2.2 aperture.

In terms of Pricing, iPhone 5s could be considered more expensive, but apple has already discontinued. So we can’t really compare the price.

Similarity

iPhone SE and iPhone 6s both feature Apple A9 CPU, Finger Print Scanner and 12-megapixel rear camera. Both supports Apple Pay and Live Photos.

Difference

iPhone SE comes with a 4-inch display and 1136 x 640 pixels resolution compared to 4.7-inch display and 1334 x 750 pixels resolution found in iPhone 6s. iPhone SE doesn’t have pressure sensitive display or 3D touch like iPhone 6s. New 4-inch iPhone feature 1.2-megapixel front facing camera, but iPhone 6s has 5-megapixel front shooter. Along with 16GB and 32GB, iPhone 6s is also available with 128GB storage, but iPhone SE doesn’t come with 128GB Storage. Even with smaller battery, iPhone SE runs longer compared to iPhone 6s. According to Apple website, iPhone SE has over 20% more battery life compared to iPhone 6s.

With regard to pricing, iPhone SE costs $399 (16GB) / $499 (64GB), and iPhone 6s costs $649 (16GB) / $749 (64GB). If you are okay with 4-inch iPhone, iPhone SE is the best option to save money.
