Benchmark Comparison

Apple A9 is already official and found in iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, and iPad Pro features Apple A9X CPU. So far Apple A9 is the best Chipset found in any Smartphones, and Apple A9X is the best that you can find on any tablet. Kirin 950 has also gone official with Huawei Mate 8.

However, we will see some great smartphones and tablets in 2016 those will be launched with high-end chipsets, like Helio X20, Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890. Today, we will compare the benchmark score based on Geekbench 3 of Helio x20 vs Snapdragon 820 vs Exynos 8890 vs Apple A9 vs Apple A9X vs Kirin 950 CPUs.

Mediatek Helio X20

Helio X20 is the first deca-core tri-cluster 20nm 64-bit chipset;  2 cores x Cortex-A72 @ 2.5GHz + 4 cores x Cortex-A53 @ 2.0GHz + 4 cores x Cortex-A53 @ 1.4GHz. Smartphone with Helio X20 is expected to arrived in early 2016.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820

Snapdragon 820 is the most awaited chipset. It features a 64-bit Quad-core chipset that can be clocked at up to 2.2 GHz. It is based on 14nm FinFET tech, and it would be twice faster and power efficient compared to Snapdragon 810, Qualcomm reported.

Exynos 8890 (also known as Exynos 8 octa 8890)

Exynos 8890 is also an octa-core 64-bit 14nm chipset based on ARMv8 tech. It is the first chipset from Samsung that features Modem and Application Processor in one chip. It was rumored as Mongoose M1. It’s 8 cores are divided into 2 parts; first 4 cores are customer made and another 4 are based on ARM Cortex-A53.

Huawei’s Kirin 950

Kirin 950 is an octa-core 64-bit 16nm CPU. Its octa-core is divided as Quad-core 2.3 GHz Cortex-A72 + quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex A53. It is also a powerful chipset, but it would be the least powerful chip in 2016.

Apple A9

Apple A9 is still a dual-core chip when all major manufacturers have almost stopped producing dual-core CPU for smartphones and tablets. However, it is the best chipset of 2015 that you can find on smartphones. Apple A9 features a dual-core CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz.

Apple A9X

Apple A9X is the best chipset of that any smartphones or tablets features so far, and we don’t see any indication that 2016 would bring any CPU that could beat Apple A9X except Apple A10X. It features a 2.26 GHz dual-core CPU.

GeekBench 3 Benchmark comparison

Helio x20 vs Snapdragon 820 vs Exynos 8890 vs Apple A9 vs Apple A9X vs Kirin 950 CPUs

Huawei Mate 8 : $569.99

iPhone 6s/6s Plus : $649/$749

We have also attached the screenshots from Geekbench 3 at the end of the article as Slideshow. All scores mentioned above still shows on GeekBench’s official website, but Exynos 8890 score is based on a leak. Last time it shows on GeekBench 3 with Samsung Lucky-LTE model and scored 1446 in single-core and 4769 in multi-core performance. However, Samsung Galaxy S7 would feature Snapdragon 820 as well as Exynos 8890 S0C. So Samsung would certainly match the performance of Exynos 8890 with Snapdragon 820. They both are likely to be similar in terms of performance. So we expect the leak score to be legit.

Smartphones’ performance is primarily judged by single-core performance as most of the apps don’t even get a chance to use more than a core. If you are an Android user, it would be quite difficult to choose one among Snapdragon 820, Exynos 8890 and Mediatek Helio X20, as they all are quite close to each other in CPU performance, but Snapdragon 820 would certainly be the best as far as Graphic Performance is concerned. Helio X20 has so many cores, so it is able to score almost 7000 in multi-core performance, and single-core also shows a great improvement compared to its predecessor.
