MacBook Purchasing guide

Buying a new Macbook could be confusing sometimes when you don’t know what you really need. The confusion increases more when you are a new buyer, and you keep on thinking and hunting what model you should get. We will make it easy to choose which one you should really get.

First of all, Macbook has some models that you can choose from:

  • MacBook Air 11-inch
  • MacBook Air 13-inch
  • 12-inch Macbook with Retina Display
  • MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display
  • MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina Display
  • MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina Display with 2GB Graphic Card

All the models can be configured to upgrade RAM and Processor except MacBook Air 12-inch with Retina Display. All the MacBook comes with Mac OS, and you don’t need to pay anything whenever you upgrade it to the latest OS.

MacBook Air 11-inch and 13-inch

There is no difference between these 2 models except the display size, resolution and Battery life. The very base model features Intel Core i5 Processor, 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM. There is no laptop in the world that can give you more battery life than MacBook Air 13-inch. 11-inch model is too small to work, so it is basically bought for children. You can configure the MacBook Air to Core i7 and 8GB RAM at the time of purchase.

The reason to buy MacBook Air

  • You travel a lot and need a light weight laptop
  • You need a laptop with the best battery backup that could run whole day
  • You need only for official work and some entertainment (ex : Word Processing Work, Internet Surfing, Music, Movies etc.)

If you are moving from a Windows Laptop that had Intel Core i7 Processor and 8GB RAM, Macbook Air with Core i5 and 4GB RAM runs even better. I realized myself when I moved from Windows to Mac

The only reason some people skip : The laptop’s resolution. If you are a movie lover and want to watch the movie in sharp and crisp quality, skip it. You can check the display quality before you buy. Bring a USB with some movies to check if you are not buying online. The native resolution for Macbook Air 13-inch is 1440 X 900 pixels and 11-inch features 1366 X 768 pixels. So it’s not even Full HD.

12-inch Macbook with Retina Display

Reasons to buy

  • If you Want a better display with higher resolution
  • Watch lots of HD movies, but need something compact
  • Use laptop occasionally to surf internet and some word processing work

iPad Pro launch may decrease the demand of 12-inch MacBook Pro. 12-inch MacBook features intel core M processor 1.1 GHz, configurable to 1.3 GHz, 2304 X 1440 pixels resolution, 8GB RAM etc.. This could be the choice of a starter.

MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display

This is the most popular laptop, that is compact, fast and features a great display. MacBook Pro 13-inch features dual-core 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5  (configurable to core i7), 8GB RAM and 2560 X 1600 pixels resolution. It is the best choice for those who wants a faster compact Laptop. You will love to watch movies in its shard and crisp display. If you don’t play such games that need graphic card, you can go for it. However, if you need the best laptop to work much faster and process more data in one go, go for 15-inch model. It’s L3 cache memory is 3MB, while 15 inches models have 6MB (talking about the new models)

MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina Display and 15-inch with 2GB Graphic

There are not many difference in those 2 models. They both features Intel Core i7 quad core processor and 16GB RAM. The primary difference is only the Graphic card of 2GB that one model lacks.

The only reason to buy the model with 2GB video card

If you are a Game Lover or/and do video editing or Graphic kind of job, go for the model with 2GB Graphic without giving it another thought.

If you don’t play such games that requires any dedicated Video Card and don’t do Video editing work, the don’t waste your money. It already features Intel Iris Pro Graphic and higher resolution (2880 X 1800 pixels) that makes the display sharp and clear.

Both the models are ready to deal with heavy tasks, and it is the best choice of a Geek or anyone who do a lot of stuffs on their laptops. If you buy any of the latest MacBook, it comes with SSD drive that can be upgraded. SSD drive is much faster compared to SATA, and it respond quickly.
