Exynos 8 octa 8890

After a long period of rumors, Samsung’s Exynos 8890 chip is official now. Exynos 8890 is the company’s first custom designed CPU based on 64-bit ARMv8 architecture, and it has also brought LTE Rel.12 Cat.12/13 modem on board.

Like Exynos 7420, Exynos 8890 is  company’s second octa-core processor based on 14nm FinFET technology. Exynos 7420 is already known as one of the best chips found in smartphones, Samsung’s all high end device that was recently launched, feature Exynos 7420 chipset. Now Samsung wants to take the mobile computing to the next level with the advanced modem and CPU.

Exynos 8 Octa 8890 was initially rumored as Mongoose M1. Exynos 8890 will bring over 30 percent improvement in performance, and 10 percent improvement in power efficiency, Samsung reported. To get the most of its eight cores, it supports enhanced heterogeneous multiprocessing. Among 8 cores, 4 cores are custom-made and the other 4 cores are based on ARM Cortex-A53.

Samsung’s Exynos 8 Octa 8890 is the first chip to combine modem as well as application processor in one chip. The new advanced model can provide the downloading speed of up to 600 Mbps, and uploading speed can reach up to 150 Mbps. Exynos 8 octa 8890 will feature Mali–T880 GPU.

Samsung’s upcoming smartphones will feature Exynos 8890 chipset. According to recent rumors Galaxy S7 would be launched with Snapdragon 820 as well Exynos 8890 chip, but users may not have the flexibility to choose one, because this would be country/region specific. So users can buy the one available in their area or may import.
