Samsung is preparing chip based on Heterogeneous System Architecture

Samsung is busy optimizing Mongoose M1 or Exynos 8890 SoC. Exynos 8890 benchmark has showed much improvement in single-core as well as multi-core performance, it would probably have 2.3 GHz processor. Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to feature this chip, but we are not talking about this one.

According to recent leak, Samsung is working on something big. Samsung’s upcoming chip will be based on Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA), and it expected to arrive between 2017 to 2018.

Chips, based on Heterogeneous System Architecture usually features CPU and GPU on the same die, and it utilizes multiple processor types to improve the CPU as well as GPU performance. HSA is not a new term, Some AMD Processors are based on HSA architecture used in computers. All we need to know is, this one would be much faster compared to existing ones, and will serve with better 3D graphic.

Samsung’s Exynos 7420 is the fastest chip so far that you can find in any Android devices, but it remains behind Qualcomm’s Chip when it comes to Graphic (GPU). Qualcomm’s chip gives better Graphic experience compared to Mediatek and Exynos. So Samsung needs to work on GPU.

There is also rumor that Samsung would soon start producing chips based on 10nm FinFET tech. Well, 10nm, 14nm or 16nm, whatever the tech is, it should work well without getting much heat. Apple A9 chip has been produced by Samsung as well as TSMC. Samsung made A9 chip is smaller than TSMC based on 14nm FinFET tech, but TSMC made chip is based on 16nm FinFET and little larger. However, TSMC chip performs better and doesn’t heat up as much as Samsung chip does. This instance defines 16nm can beat 14nm depending on how it has been optimized.
