How to Pixelate an image on Mac, iPhone and iPad

Sometimes we want to hide a certain area of the image due to privacy or security. In such case, you have a couple of options; crop it if possible, blur it, paint it or pixelate it. Today, we are going to tell you how you can pixelate a photo on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Do you know what pixelate means?

What does Pixelate mean?

To hide or blur a part of an image/video with pixel-like patches. You must have seen many times on TV when victim’s face is pixelated to keep him/her anonymous. Here is an example of a pixelated image.

How to Pixelate Image on Mac

  • Download Free Skitch App for Mac.
  • The file will be downloaded in .Zip format. Double click on file to Unzip it, and then move Skitch app to Application folder. If Mac doesn’t let you run the app, allow Mac to download apps from anywhere.
  • Run Skitch app.
  • Drag and drop any image you want to pixelate.
  • Select Pixelate icon on the left.
  • Select the area you want to hide.
  • That’s it, the image is pixelated.

  • You can pixelate entire image or any certain area of the image.
  • Now press Command+E key to save, Or click on File, and select Export. Name your file, select destination folder, and select the image format you want (PNG, JPG, BMP, GIF, TIFF or PDF). You can also take screenshot pressing Command+Shift+4 key, and then select the image area to capture as a screenshot.

How to Pixelate a Photo on iPhone and iPad

  • Download Skitch app from App Store.
  • Launch the app, and tap on Photos option to select an existing photo, or you can use Camera to capture a new one.

Pixelate image on iPhone

  • Tap on the arrow sign on the bottom right corner.
  • Now tap Pixelate icon.
  • Select the area you want to pixelate. It won’t let you select a large area, but you can select multiple areas by repeating your action.
  • Once you are done, tap on the arrow icon on the top right corner to save or share.
