Microsoft claimed that new Surface Book is twice as fast as Macbook Pro, and they probably meant Macbook Pro 13-inch model. Microsoft’s claim turned out misleading or you can say they tricked about the performance. When they mentioned performance, they didn’t mean the CPU performance, but GPU.

PCWorld did performance test, and the benchmark score revealed which one performs better. They used MacBook Pro 13-inch 2015 model that features 5th Generation Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM and in-built Intel Iris 6100 Graphic, and Surface Book that features 6th Generation Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM and dedicated Nvidia GeForce Graphic.

Let’s a have a look at the Graphic test (MacBook Pro vs Surface Book)

Now you must have understood what Microsoft really meant when they said Surface Book is twice as fast as MacBook Pro. Yes, it is faster, but in GPU performance only. The GPU result was obvious, because Surface Book had dedicated Nvidia Graphic, and MacBook Pro was using in-built Intel Iris 6100 Graphic.

SurfaceBook with 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM and in-built intel graphic costs $1,499, and MacBook Pro 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM and in-built intel graphic costs $1,299. The one PCWorld tested costs more with dedicated Nvidia Graphic. If they had compared these two models, MacBook Pro would have certainly outperformed even in Graphic Performance test.

If you are willing to pay more ($1,899) for Surface Book, then you can get a Surface Book with Intel core i5, 8GB RAM 256GB SSD and dedicated Nvidia Graphic. CPU performance will not be better than MacBook Pro, but GPU will rock. If you are a gamer, you may like it, but not like a gaming laptop.
