What is Motion Photo in Galaxy S7?
Samsung has brought Motion Photos feature with its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices. So what is Motion Photo? You must have heard people saying that Motion Photo is similar to Live Photos of iPhone 6s or 6s Plus.
Motion Photo in Samsung Galaxy S7 can be turned on or off from camera settings. When it is on, the device actually captures 3 seconds of video before you have pressed the shutter. That means camera starts recording as soon as you launch camera app, but don’t save anything permanently in storage. So Once you press the shutter button, it saves the video of 3 second that it recorded before pressing the shutter. Much likely, iPhones Live Photos? But don’t jump to the conclusion.
Motion Photo saves the capture image in such format that can’t be shared as a photo among other users or on social media, but it still has been named as Motion Photo, and there is a reason behind this. Once the file is saved, you can open it and save any part of the video as still image, and it can be shared now.
Alternative of Motion Photo for all smartphones : Capture a short video, play the video, pause it, take screenshot, that will also be a still image. 🤔🙃 I am not sure why Motion Photo even exists.
This is something useful. It actually captures the moving object as Panorama shot. For example : When you capture a photo of moving child, it will be captured as traditional panoramic shot, and this panorama shot is more vivid and vibrant like video.
Live Photos also capture some seconds before you press the shutter button, but it’s not video. You can press on the capture image, and it will come to live. When you apply this one lock screen, it can be pressed to make it live, and when you set that live image as home screen, it works as still image. When you share that Live Photo with your friends or on social media that doesn’t support live Photos, it is shared as still image itself. You can also download live wallpapers for your device from third party apps.
Compared to Live Photos, we didn’t find any use of Motion Photo, but Motion Panorama is a cool feature that other brands may opt in the future.
