DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG : How to fix this Google Chrome error

Earlier we talked about one of the Google Chrome Error dns_probe_finished_no_internet that prevents users to access internet via Google Chrome browser. There is one more similar error that you may see sometimes on Chrome “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG.” The reason behind both the error could be same.

Whether it’s a short error, like This Webpage is not available, or the long error, the error type remains the same as DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG, and also the solution for both will be the same.

How to fix DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG Google Chrome Error

Solution 1 : Command Prompt

On your Windows computer press Windows + R key together, and then type cmd in the search filed, and hit Enter. Now type these commands one by one. Don’t forget to press Enter key after each command you type.

  • ipconfig /release
  • ipconfig /all
  • ipconfig /flushdns
  • ipconfig /renew
  • netsh int ip set dns
  • netsh winsock reset

Restart your computer, and the issue should be fixed

Solution 2 : Update DNS Settings

Note : Try solution only if the Solution one fails to fix the issue

In some cases adding Google DNS fixes the issue. To change your internet DNS Settings follow these steps;

  • Go to the Control Panel on your Windows Computer (Start — > Control Panel)
  • Click View Network Status and Tasks under Network and Internet Settings

  • Click Change Adapter Settings

  • Right-click on Network Adaptor, and select Properties

  • Select Internet protocol Version 4 (TC/IPv4)
  • Click Properties

Network Properties

  • Now Select “use the following DNS server address”
  • You can enter following as DNS Server Address

Preferred DNS Server : 8.8.8.8

Alternate DNS Server : 8.8.4.4

Google DNS

  • Hit OK button

Now launch Google Chrome, and try to access any website. You should no longer see the DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG error.

Solution 3 : Update Network Driver

Note : Try this method only if the Solution 1 and Solution 2 doesn’t fix the issue

Solution 4 : Reset Google Chrome

Reset your Google Chrome Browser, but make sure resetting your Google Chrome restore to its factory settings. Restoring the Chrome will restore; default search engine, home page and tabs, pinned tabs, content settings, cookies and site data, extensions, themes etc…

You can restore Google Chrome browser this following these steps;

  • Launch Google Chrome
  • Click on Menu icon (three liner or three dots icon, Located at the top left corner)
  • Click Settings
  • Scroll down and click Show Advanced Settings
  • Click Reset Settings on the bottom of the page
  • You will be asked to confirm, click Reset

Once Resetting is complete, close Google Chrome browser, and then try to access internet.  If you are still having issue, reboot your WiFi router, and then try.
