Last year Apple released a brand new MacBook model with 12 inches retina Display. This model feature an amazing display and Intel Core M processor, and it is the only existing MacBook model that comes in three colors; Silver, Gold and Space Gray. This model comes with a USB-C charge cable that has found to be faulty.

Issue with USB-C Charge Cable

If you are one of the users who bought MacBook 12-inch retina model through June 2015, you should keep reading. A limited number of USB-C Charge cable may fail due to its design. As a result, your MacBook may not charge or charge intermittently when it is connected to a Power Adaptor with the faulty cable.

Solution

If you have bought your MacBook from Apple’s Online Store or bought from some other store, but provided the valid postal address while registering your product, you will receive a new redesigned USB-C Charge Cable by the end of February 2016. If there is any change in your mailing address, please contact Apple to stop sending it to that address.

All other users, follow the process below to identify if you are using a faulty cable.

Affected cables have “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China.” stamped on them. New, redesigned cables include a serial number after that text. See images below.

What to do when you identify a faulty charge cable

Apple will need the serial number of your MacBook to verify if you are eligible for a replacement. So you need to contact Apple Support or visit authorized service provider or book an appointment. This replacement program covers affected USB-C charge cables until June 8, 2018. If you have paid for the replacement earlier, do contact Apple for a refund. However, we don’t really think anyone did so, because all the 12-inch model must be in warranty as it’s not been even a year when Apple introduced 12-inch retina model.
